The Aquarium
The Aquarium of Genoa is the largest in Italy. It is visited by more than a million people a year. The visit lasts about two hours and meanders between 70 tanks. The marine environments of all parts of the world are reproduced in the different rooms.
The most popular tanks are those of the dolphins, sharks and seals. The latter can also be admired when they emerge to breathe and to rest on the rocks. Indeed, their tank can be crossed on a gangway just a few centimetres above the water.
A new tank is dedicated to the penguins. In the Tactile Tank the rays swim and visitors are invited to stroke them. For the more curious, the guided visit “Behind the scenes” reveals the technical and organisational secrets of such a fascinating and complex structure.
