Piazza de Ferrari
Piazza de Ferrari is the heart of the “modern centre”” of the city. This area arose during the nineteenth century next to the Historical Centre. In the middle of the square there is a large round fountain. All around there are many majestic buildings. The handsome building of the old stock exchange houses on the ground floor the Sala delle Grida (Shouting Room). This is a true beauty of liberty style and is used for exhibitions and conferences today.
On the square one also finds the Carlo Felice Theatre. This was inaugurated in 1828 but the original neoclassic structure was destroyed during the war. Only the colonnade was saved. Restructuring was completed in 1991. Going into the stalls is like walking into a square. The walls seem to be the façades of palaces with windows and balconies.
From Piazza de Ferrari some elegant streets begin, among which Via XXV Aprile, Via Roma and Via XX Settembre. Their windows are a paradise for those who love shopping.
