Skyline
Even before touching the pier, Genoa welcomes you with its magic skyline.
The Lighthouse is the symbol of Genoa. It has watched over the entrance to the port since 1543. Today it can be reached on a pedestrian pathway and houses a museum. Behind it the city climbs the hillsides. On the summits there are 15 forts built starting from the 17th century.
The Historical Centre seen from the sea is a stretch of slate roofs, bell towers and ancient lookout towers. The outline of the 16th century church of Santa Maria Assunta dominates the port from the hill of Carignano. On the waterfront is the area redesigned by the famous Genoese architect Renzo Piano.
